WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, recently shared his thoughts on the widespread buffering issues during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul event on Netflix earlier this month. Speaking on Greg and The Morning Buzz, Levesque reflected on the challenges of handling massive streaming audiences, jokingly stating he’d gladly trade smooth streams for tens of millions of viewers.
Triple H’s Experience with Buffering
Levesque revealed he watched the fight while flying back from a WWE event, noting the signal issues were expected given the circumstances.
“The buffering was expected on my side. We were flying back from TV watching the fight, and the signal was wonky. I thought, ‘We’re 40,000 feet in the air; it should be.’ Then, seeing it online of everybody saying it was buffering, it made me laugh,” said Levesque.
Streaming Challenges with Massive Audiences
Triple H acknowledged the difficulties in accommodating large-scale streaming audiences, remarking, “You start putting 60 million households all at once on a streaming service. If our first night buffers and they come and say there were 60-70 million households watching, I’ll be good with the buffering.”
WWE’s Streaming Future on Netflix
This commentary comes as WWE prepares to move its streaming library to Netflix starting in January 2025. With such a major transition, Levesque’s remarks reflect an understanding of the technical hurdles that come with delivering content to a global audience on a massive scale.
