During this week’s WWE RAW, Austin Theory made headlines by cashing in his Money in the Bank on Seth Rollins. However, he ultimately failed to secure the United States title. Later, in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Theory spoke candidly about the situation and what he felt about the plan.
Theory explained, “I don’t feel like there’s ever a plan. To be honest with you, the only thing that I kind of knew was if you know a match you’re going to have at a pay-per-view, like [John] Cena, for example.” Here, he acknowledged that while certain matches were set, much of his storyline was uncertain. For instance, despite winning the US title previously, he described the process as “seeing what rolls.” Moreover, he admitted he would have preferred a cash-in attempt on Roman Reigns, even if it was a loss. Yet, he knew WWE had other long-term plans for Roman, which limited his options.
In addition to discussing his cash-in, Theory touched on his experience working with Cena. He remembered hearing hints about the potential storyline with Cena. However, when he arrived at the arena, the direction was still developing. Theory noted, “Cena is coming back, and you’re going to do a backstage with him.” At that moment, he realized the magnitude of working with one of WWE’s biggest stars. Although he struggled to fully grasp Cena’s vision, Theory gradually started to understand the character-building Cena wanted to bring out in him.
Reflecting further, Theory stated, “I think he just sees more of who I really am being displayed in a different way.” Even though it took time, Theory learned from Cena’s guidance and sees it as a significant milestone in his WWE journey.
